Montreal-based XYZ Cultural Technology wins a $ 3.8 M contract in partnership with the American specialists in digital technologies for planetariums and high-definition cinemas.
XYZ is proud to announce that it has won a $ 3.8 million contract for the renewal of the audiovisual equipment at the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium which along with the Biodôme, the Insectarium, and the Botanical Garden is part of Espace pour la vie. By partnering with Evans & Sutherland, experts in high-definition projection technologies, XYZ will deliver a world-class solution for the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium. The Montreal firm, which specializes in audiovisual integration for projects with a high degree of technical complexity, endeavours that visitors will have access to a planetarium equipped with the latest technologies by October 2020.
Latest generation equipment
In the Chaos Theater, the team will have to modify the dome in order to install new projectors. In all, five laser RGB projectors will be used to obtain images of unprecedented brilliance and definition. The experience of the Milky Way Theater will also be renewed, thanks to six new simulation projectors. The current servers will be replaced by servers conceived and constructed by Evans & Sutherland. XYZ will also design and integrate show lighting and maintenance lighting systems.
Delivery planned for 2020
The public will be able to enjoy the renewed experience of the two domes in the fall of 2020. The XYZ and Evans & Sutherland teams are already in preparation for construction, which will begin shortly.
